Bible Story

THIS MONTH’S BIBLICAL THEME IS: God is King.

God is King, reigning with absolute authority, justice and love over all creation. As the sovereign Ruler, His power is unmatched, and His wisdom guides the universe with perfect order and purpose.

Unlike the earthly king the Israelites cried out for, God’s reign is eternal and unchanging, filled with mercy and grace for His people. He governs with a heart of compassion, inviting all to find refuge under His divine protection and provision.

As King, He calls His followers to honor Him with reverence and obedience, promising an everlasting kingdom of peace and joy for those who trust in Him.

Israel’s First King (1 Samuel 8:1–9; 13:1–14, 15:10–29)

King Saul was chosen to lead the Israelites. When Saul led the Israelites into battle against the Philistines, he became frightened and disobeyed God. King Saul viewed himself as the ultimate authority in Israel, and this upset God. Samuel, one of God’s judges, tried to help Saul and the Israelites, but Saul still didn’t listen. Because he disobeyed God and forgot that God is the one true King, Saul had to face consequences and his time as king came to an end.

Much like Israel did what was right in their own eyes and demanded a king to rule over them, their own king did things his own way instead of God’s way. God is the One true King because He always does what is good and right. We all try to do things our own way—we all sin. We let other things rule over us instead of God. We can’t fix our sin problem on our own. Jesus died on the cross and rose again, making a way for us to be forgiven from sin. He is the one true King forever!
